Bingo is a game of chance played with numbers that are drawn randomly which players match against numbers that have been pre-printed on tickets that they buy before the start of the game. The tickets may be printed on paper, card stock or electronically represented and are called as “cards.” Most versions end the game when the first person to achieve a combination from the drawn numbers. The winner is supposed to shout out the word “Bingo!”, which alerts the other players and caller of a possible winning combination. All wins are checked for validity before the win is officially confirmed at which time the prize is presented to the player and a new game is started.
Some times, participation is increased by creating some excitement among the contestants. Since its invention in 1934, modern bingo has changed into multiple variations, with each jurisdiction’s gambling laws regulating how the game is played. There are also nearly unlimited patterns that may be specified for play. Some patterns only require one number to be matched, some require a line of numbers, that is, all the numbers on a row or column, called ‘Line’, up to cover-all games which awards the jackpot for covering and entire card, called a ‘Full House’ and certain games which award prizes to players for matching no numbers or achieving no pattern.
Now, Basket Bingo is a variation of Bingo where the prizes are not just cash, but a collection of any types of articles and other accessories that are neatly packed in a basket. These types of games are the ones that are usually used in fundraisers held by organisations like churches etc. This is done since the compilation of a basket is usually cheaper than a cash prize since one can bulk order the prizes and thus end up spending less money on a certain group of products than its actual price.
Also if there is a sponsor for an event, instead of giving away money to the organisers, the sponsor can make baskets as gifts filled with their products. This will ensure that they do not waste money, but it can be considered as selling their products for all the publicity and goodwill generated from the act of sponsoring the prizes.
Most often the baskets are Longaberger baskets that are filled with Longaberger goodies and stuff that anyone would love to posses. Each filled basket can be worth several hundred dollars. The typical basket bingo fundraiser lasts from three to four hours. They are usually held on Saturdays or on other holidays so that the number of people who are available for participation is also more.
Basket Bingo is most commonly played in fundraisers organised by churches and other non profit organisations since it provides people with harmless fun and can also be used as a social get together. It also helps in generating a large amount of funds that can be really helpful to the organiser. Thus Basket Bingo is a concept that has helped millions of people all over the world have fun and also enjoy their weekends and also helped those lucky few to walk home with something extra.
