Safety bingo is an office game that has evolved, or rather has come about to ensure the safety of people who go to the office. To begin with, safety bingo can be defined as another variation on the normal bingo game, the catch is that this may go on for a year or through out the office goers complete employment.
In one variation of the game, each person is given a bingo card at the beginning when they join the company or perhaps growing in rank, the card, which some offices require them to play on a copy of details of the basic job descriptions and all its bonuses and demands of that particular employee. This can be done based on individuals if the organization is small, or a larger basis dividing them into sections or departments, the prize money is of course usually shared.
An initial amount of money is set as the target prize, as the game progresses the target prize increases continuously, the catch here is something called ‘accidentals’ where if an employee has an ‘accident’ the game is started over from the beginning and the prize goes back to the initial amount, an accident actually being a sick days leave, medical absence or a personal day. But if no accidents occur, the game goes on whereby the head of the departments call out the numbers notifying the individuals of the organization or the respective departments of the number chose for that day via email or intranet, whichever is their choice.
The game in this way can extend for weeks and when a party has the classic bingo filled on their card they call it in to be verified, if everything is ok, then of course they win, but if it turns out that they have cried wolf inadvertently, they risk starting an entirely new game. Obviously these are incentives to reduce employees absenting themselves from work, and also boost teamwork especially if a department is playing, as not only does the entire department gets the prize, the only way they can get it is by working together.
The safety bingo part stems from using safety hazard details instead of employee job description details, and accidentals are replaced by injuries, on top of this, during common meetings, questions may be fired out randomly at any employee and if they answer five questions correctly, they can win something more like tickets to the next ball game or the new movie releasing soon, on top of the incentive of the possible bingo jackpot.
The rules are more or less the same as above, though instead of probably emailing the chosen number, it could simply be posted in a hard copy in a common area, like the lunch room perhaps, and more twists like the first one to cover an entire row or all corners of the card can be the winner instead of a full house and this makes the game more interesting as well as allowing it to last longer.
