Spanish Bingo is one of the many variations of the game of bingo. It is very much like the UK version of the game, but with a slight variation. The rules, game play and bingo cards of the Spanish variant are the same as the English version. The minute difference that occurs between the two is in the prizes alone. The similarities or the common aspects of both the versions are briefed below.
Similarities between UK and Spanish Bingo
Both the variations consist of a Bingo ticket with 9 columns and 3 rows. They sum up to 27 squares, all of which aren’t occupied by the numbers. Only 15 numbers are present in the ticket, 5 in each row. The numbers are grouped under the 9 columns depending on the tenth place digit. For example, numbers between 1 and 10 will occupy the first column; numbers between 11 and 20 occupy the second column and so on up to numbers 81 to 90 which occupy the ninth or the last column in the bingo ticket. Quite evidently, numbers from 1 to 90 are used in both these versions, which is the reason why they are both commonly known as 90 ball bingo.
The bingo host randomly calls out numbers between 1 and 90 after picking up the bingo numbers placed in a closed bag. The numbers are called in a random order and as they are called, the player can mark the numbers if they are present in his or her bingo card. Once the player marks off a set of numbers in a particular pattern, he or she wins. The pattern is decided before the commencement of the game. Many players change the patterns to make the game more interesting.
Patterns and Prizes in UK bingo
UK bingo has mainly 3 prizes. They include – one line, two lines and full house. If a player manages to get all the numbers in any one of the three horizontal lines, he or she will have to call out ‘Bingo’ loudly in order to claim the prize for one line. After one line, a player who gets any 2 out of the three lines marked is declared as the winner for two lines. The last prize goes to the first person who manages to mark all the 15 numbers present in his or her bingo ticket. The prize amount for full house is always the maximum followed by two lines, while one line has the least prize money involved.
Patterns and Prizes in Spanish Bingo
The slight difference between the two games is briefed in this section. In Spanish bingo, there are only two prizes viz. one line and full house. The two lines prize is eliminated in this version. This allows more prize money to be distributed to the winners of one line and full house.
Many bingo halls have also adapted to the Spanish version of the game which is slowly gaining more attention amongst players due to the high prize money involved.
