Travel bingo: Your ideal travel companion

Long distance travel can be a bore sometimes even if you are traveling with a large group. This might happen if you haven’t packed any time killing as well as entertaining tasks. Bingo proves to be one such activity game that no soul on this planet can hate. It doesn’t take more than a minute to understand the rules of the game, while it can entertain the entire group for days! So whether you are driving down or flying to the other side of the earth, equipping yourself with a ‘Travel Bingo’ package is a must!

There are several variations to the game of Bingo besides the legendary original game. The simplest form of Bingo requires bingo cards, bingo numbers and a bingo board. Each player is given a bingo card containing 25 squares divided into 5 columns and 5 rows. These 25 squares each have random numbers marked from 1 to 75 for US bingo or 1 to 90 in case of UK bingo. The bingo host calls out random numbers from 1 to 75 (or 90), and each player will mark the numbers on his or her card, if it is present on their card. If the player manages to mark 5 numbers present on the same horizontal, vertical or diagonal line, he or she wins.

While traveling, it might get slightly cumbersome to place all the bingo numbers on the board, hence a few rule changes have led to the invention of travel bingo. Some of the variations under travel bingo include Road Kill Bingo and Road Side Bingo. Both these peculiar versions of the game were developed for road travel, as their names suggest.

Road Kill Bingo

Road Kill Bingo is a game involving dead animals and is not recommended for kids under the age of four. Instead of the numbers in the bingo cards, the squares in the cards contain pictures of animals we see everyday. Depending on the state you are driving in, you can choose animals found exclusively in those places. The player gets to mark off the animals on his card if he or she finds the same dead animal on the road. Sometimes, only the player who spots the animal first is allowed to mark off the animal. This allows you to have a long game during an extremely long drive.

Road Side Bingo

Road Side Bingo on the other hand is pretty much clean and can be played by all. The dead animals in the squares are replaced by either traffic signs or rare cars or any item one might see during a road trip. Once the player spots any of the items, he or she marks it on his or card. On completing a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line of marked squares, the winner is declared.

Travel bingo has proved to be an excellent entertainer for a group of any size and age. Owing to its simplicity, the game can be modified by anyone depending on the crowd. This makes it extremely interesting and fun to play.
