Bingo Patterns and Blackout Bingo

Bingo Patterns

There are hundreds of potential patterns that can be played on a bingo card. Pattern bingo allows the caller to announce a pattern, either vertical, horizontal or diagonal, or any one of various other complex patterns. These complex patterns are based on shapes or letters and requires a bit of imagination and creativity to devise.

Different Bingo games allow for different patterns. Patterns commonly used in 75 ball bingo include Explosion, Hangman, Letter A, Coverall, Cornered, etc. The different patterns used in 90 ball bingo include Any Line, Any 2 Lines, and Full House. 80 ball bingo patterns vary between Game X, Corners, and Coverall.

There are innumerable possible bingo patterns that can be used in a bingo game. Certain bingo cards have patterns already highlighted/marked, and there are 3 basic designations for these:
•    Standard Bingo Patterns- These patterns cannot be shifted or moved on the card are can be won only when each highlighted square of that pattern is covered.
•    Crazy Bingo Patterns- Here, the pattern on the bingo card can be rotated in 90 degrees increments in order to win a bingo pattern match (by 90, 180 or 270 degrees).
•    Wild Bingo Patterns- Here, the bingo cards consist of scattered patterns. The pattern is static and remains in the same place, but it can be located anywhere on the bingo card.

Blackout Bingo

Blackout Bingo, also popularly called “Coverall Bingo,” is the most popular type of Bingo pattern. There are many Bingo websites that use this pattern in their jackpot games, as it is one of the most difficult patterns to get, making the game longer as well as more exciting for the player.

In 75 ball blackout bingo, the player is required to cover all the 25 spots on his or her bingo card. As the middle spot is free, it takes at least 24 calls to cover all the spots. It is very important, at this stage, to pay attention to the bingo caller, as it is easy to miss some of the numbers called out.

Although it takes at least 24 calls in order to get a blackout bingo, getting a blackout in anything less than 40 calls is considered exemplary. Normally, however, most bingo games end around the 60th call, depending on the number of players in the game.

In 80 ball bingo, a blackout bingo can be claimed once all 16 squares are covered, while in 90 ball bingo, a blackout bingo occurs when a Full House, with all the 27 squares marked, is claimed.

Playing a Pattern

Playing patterns on a bingo game card is as simple as it gets. All you have to do is, complete the pattern on your card before any other player does. Once you have the pattern, you get the bingo and you win. Normally, bingo players receive random game cards, usually three to four in number. Each player will have a display board showing the numbers called as well as the pattern required to get a bingo. Once you have marked the right pattern on your card, you win the bingo.

There are some online bingo games that automatically mark cards for the players. As soon as a player gets a bingo, the game stops and the winner’s numbers are verified before the prize is given. When more than one person wins the same game, the prize is split. Once the winner is announced, the new round of bingo begins.
